This semester I have really enjoyed my German experience. Nick was an excellent TA that really helped me to better my German speaking and understanding. Everyday, he came into class energized and eager to teach the class.
Through the studying in this class, I have learned a lot about German culture and their perspective on America that I did not know before. One thing that I found very interesting about the German culture is that although they come off to be cold and unfriendly at the beginning, they are in fact very friendly people once you get to know them and can become life long friends. I have always thought that Germans were pessimists, but I have learned through this class that they weren't being pessimistic but actually being realistic about the things going on in their life and the world. One thing, however, that I have found to still be the truth about Germans is that they do enjoy drinking and that their beer is the best. Besides that, many of my stereotypes have been proved to be wrong.
It has also been interesting to learn about Germans thoughts about Americans. Many do believe that Americans are friendly but many of the relationships that they form are superficial which I understand why they say this. I have also learned that like me, many of their stereotypes of Americans change after visiting here for a while. Many leave with positive impressions of Americans.
In brief, this class has allowed me to learn much about the culture of Germans and why they have the customs and ideals that they have.
